Judy's Judaica :: House Mezuzah
The Hebrew word mezuzah means doorpost. In religious terms, the mezuzah is actually the piece of rolled parchment stored inside the mezuzah case. The parchment contains the Shema. Today, the word mezuzah commonly refers to both the mezuzah case and the parchment. As mandated in the Torah, the entire unit is then affixed to ones doorpost.
